After we arrived in Mallaig we were on our way with the Ferry to Armadale on the Isle of Skye. ( Ferry ride 45 minutes) The Isle of Skye is the largest and most northerly island in the Inner Hebrides,Scotland. The island peninsulas radiate out from a mountainous centre dominated by the Cuillin hills.
In Armadale we took the local bus to Portree. ( Bus ride 1 hour) I did not take photos when on the bus. You know it’s a local bus, the road is very winding and not that wide, runs through the hills and the driver knows every hill and curve of that road. Do I have to say more? The views are gorgeous though, so you have to go visit and see for yourself that part of the Isle.

Hi Francina. Thanks so much for choosing to follow my blog! And, I was delighted to come to yours and find this post on your visit to the Isle of Skye. I visited the island many many years ago, when I was a student in England and on travel break … will never forget it! Especially the beautiful isolation and ruggedness, then, in such striking contrast, the very civilized atmosphere of Portree where we stayed in a quaint bed and breakfast, our arrival greeted with tea and scones covered in jam and cream.
I have also had a too-quick read of a couple of your poems and really enjoyed them. I will be back soon! Thanks again.

You’re welcome , Bardess. And thank you for your return visit and kind comment!
Yes, I know what you mean with the striking contrast between Portree and the island itself. We had gorgeous weather, so we were lucky because you could see so much of the other islands and the mainland. Beautiful , simply beautiful!

Ah, the ubiquitous ferry called ‘Max Headroom’ – superb, albeit tricky, sailing waters too!

Thank you, Jimi. I’m born and raised on rivers so in my trips there must be at least some water in any shape or form and boats are always welcome too

It’s so peaceful in these photos… but I can imagine a storm over these areas might be really an incredible experience to live through.
Francina said:
The weather was very calm that day. Being on an island like this with a big storm must be really an experience indeed. Once I was on one of our islands in the North and we had a very heavy storm. The angry sea is all around you and keeps you on the island.

The vast expanses over the water are so beautifully captured here. On my large screen here I almost feel like I was in the boat!
Many thanks.

Thank you and you’re welcome Merrill. I just love to be on any boat , they give me a feel of freedom I felt when I was a child and living on a cargo vessel on the rivers.

That sounds amazing to me… I’ve only ever been in a real “boat” once in my life when I was a child…I was the only one who did not get seasick!
I loved the roll of the waves.

Back in those days it was an adventurous life and for my parents also hard work and I still miss that way of life. The family of my father’s side were all sailors, that are my roots.

My family were sailors before they came to this country in the 1600′s… all the generations since they have been here but from what I can tell, most of them have employed themselves on terra firma.
Francina said:
That’s a long line back
my children are terra firma too. Earth fast I did call that once in a poem.
