The very next morning we left Fort William for Portree on the Isle of Skye which is one of isles of The Inner Hebrides, Scotland.
At Fort William we took the West Highland Line further North to Mallaig at the coast. (Train journey 1 hour and 23 minutes ) In Mallaig we boarded the ferry to Armadale and from there the local bus to Portree. First the impressions from the train journey to Mallaig.
(Please click on photos for larger images)
You also can take the Jacobite Steam train to Mallaig which, as I’m told, was used in the Harry Potter movie. However we decided to take the diesel train instead. One of the highlights of this train journey is definitely the Glenfinnan Viaduct. It was built between 1897 and 1901. The train stopped when we were on the viaduct and then went very, very slowly around the bend. When you look out of the train window it will give you the idea the curve of the viaduct is rectangular. Spectacular viaduct!

More great views – I think you’re convincing me that there’s more north of the border than haggis
Francina said:
lol, Neil . One cab driver tried to convince us to eat Haggis… no way.. he said they have now vegetarian haggis as well. still no way though.
And yes there is so much more to see more North of the border!

Emerald green beauty in it’s finest, Francina~You should make a scrapbook! I used to be into scrap-booking, but haven’t done it in awhile. However, my hubby loves the good ‘ol photo albums, where he chronicles everything. It’s nice to have the computer, but we also enjoy looking back through the albums. Thanks for sharing! xoxo

You’re welcome , Lauren. I was thinking this morning that I might make a photo album for myself. Maybe from the photos I used on my blog otherwise we would talk books.. I made so many photos it’s not normal for me. But I was afraid if I would take not that many and they did not come out right , I could not go back that easy to make new ones
And because the train keep moving they differ from each other. Thank you for your ongoing support

Great blog.
Glenfinnan is one of the most beautiful spots in Scotland, with its memorial on the spot where Bonnie Prince Charlie landed to start the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745.
And it is where Harry flies about in the car!
Francina said:
Thank you! I agree with you that it’s very beautiful indeed! I have not seen any of the Harry Porter movies myself though.

You can see the difference in the lay of the land here from our last journey in Scotland. I imagine a difference in the atmosphere as well?
Francina said:
Yes, there is a difference indeed. The first part feels more remote and there we saw more wildlife too along the tracks.
