In town I am an island
Encircled by a sea
Of vacant chattering faces
That have no words for me
The ebb and flow of city life
casts me cold and numb
The roar of traffic scores my mind
Harsh buildings leave me dumb
I’d rather walk upon a moor
Without a soul to see
Save sheep and ponies grazing there
My island where I’m free.
