In loving memory of Judith

————————–

Life does not embarrass
me with its intricate nuances
roaring like angry dragons
breathing fire.
What can happen if I fall
on my pride?
I won’t shrivel up and die.

Minute to minute life is
changing like a carousel
ride around the world..
twirling ribbons that twine
around the stars and back to
earth again.

What if we’d never met?
You would have been bored
and I would never have
gotten a chance to know
how dry the plains were
before the rains came.

I miss you, but I don’t
want anything that’s not
mine to keep.
The road to heaven is
pocked with trenches and
in my innate blindness I
must feel my way there
one inch at a time.

So smile for me, and
remember angel wings
flutter only in dreams, and
in real life only senseless
human flesh yearns
as errant thoughts take flight.

Goodnight, my darling,
good night!
